The YesterYear Soap Company has a ‘Heart’

We have been very fortunate that our company has been successful. The only way we could have done this is through the loyal support of our customers.
With success comes the responsibility to share that with others. We have done promotions through contests and random drawings to spread our brand name. Now we would like to try something different.

We received the following comment recently:

“I would like to win this set for my husband. He is at stage 5 kidney failure, but he can’t get on the transplant list until he loses 170 pounds. He has lost 25 so far and he told me when he hits his first big goal of weighing less than 300 pounds, he is going to shave his beard off. It would be wonderful to have this set to give to him as a gift when he reaches his first big goal.

Thanks again for the chance to win!

We were so touched by her comments that we just had to send her a ‘YesterYear Soap Gift Set”.

We want to hear from you, our customers and blog readers. Do you know of a family or person that would like a ‘surprise’ gift? Someone that is having a difficult time and would could use a small act of kindness on your part? Perhaps you would like a YesterYear soap product that you just can’t purchase right now?

Let us know!

Our goal has always been to put a smile on the face of someone that least expects it.

Leave a comment below and tell us why you like our product or why you would like to ‘gift’ it and we will select giveaways based on these posts.
We will notify those selected via email. (Sorry, we can only ship within the US). Of course we would like to answer everyone’s wish, but we clearly can’t. However, we will do our best to help as many folks as we can.

Thanks for participating and spread the word!

A Great Review from ECO-HOME

It’s review time once again! I got a chance to use and review all-natural, handcrafted soaps from YesterYear Soap Company. The soaps arrived in a beautiful gift box (a set of 3 bars – Summer Citrus, Cherry Almond and Mango Papaya) and I was impressed from the very beginning by the packaging and the sweet aroma. Couldn’t wait to use them the next day!

My favorite out of the three? The Summer Citrus! The soap has a light scent and the moment you use it, you can tell the difference from a commercial brand. It glides over your skin smoothly, lathers up adequately and leaves your skin feeling clean, moisturized and rejuvenated. No dryness or itchiness associated with the chemicals present in a conventional bar of soap. Another plus point – it leaves a fresh fragrance in your bathroom!

YesterYear Soap Company preserves the timeless craft of artisan soap making – their soaps are handmade, one bar at a time, by human hands. No factories. The soaps are created from the purest and most natural ingredients (organic whenever possible) without added chemicals, preservatives or synthetic fragrances. Each soap bar balances the bar’s hardness, lather quality and moisturizing ability perfectly to give your skin a soothing, moisturizing and cleansing experience. Here are a few facts about their soaps.

What gives YesterYear Soap its fragrance?

Their fragrance oils are either essential oils or blends of natural aroma components that are created to smell like the real thing. Many of their fragrance oils are blended from essential oils, but because they are not guaranteed to be 100% essential oil they are called fragrance oils.

What makes their soap better?

A good bar soap balances bar hardness (durability), lather quality (both fluffiness and stability), and moisturizing ability. These different properties come from the different fatty acids that make up molecules of the vegetable oils we use as the base of our soap. Unfortunately, the fatty acids that are moisturizing are not those that contribute much to lather quality, and the ones that make great lather are drying to our skin. A perfect bar soap is the result of carefully balancing the fatty acids to maximize the bar’s hardness, lather quality, and moisturizing ability.

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.”

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes — how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.”

A Review of our Soap from ‘Happy Campers’ Blog

I was really excited when I was given the opportunity to review Yesteryear Soap! I just love the smell and feel of block soaps that are hand made! The richness and texture just makes me happy!

Yesteryear Soap generously sent me three beautiful bars of soap. Mango Papaya, Mississippi Mud and Cherry Almond. In the Mango Papaya, you can see chunks of fruit and the color is so beautiful! I love the fact that the lather from the soaps washes away clean and not only leaves my hands smelling clean but also leaves behind a lovely scent in my bathroom.

Is Natural Soap Actually Good for You?

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and it protects you from many injuries and illnesses that would otherwise endanger your health. Once you place such importance on your skin, you should know that the type of soaps that you use to bathe can affect your skin significantly. This is why the best solution to keeping your skin healthy is by using pure natural soap.

Here lies the challenge because when you are shopping for soaps and bathing products, you are presented with such a variety of brands, scents and prices such that you may simply buy whatever appeals to your preferences. However, you must look at the packaging on the soaps you select to see whether they are natural or not. It is possible to identify natural from commercially manufactured soaps if you take some time to look at the particular products.

First, check that the ingredients of the soap are all natural and organic, with minimal content of chemicals used in manufacturing. Some of these ingredients should include natural herbs and oils extracted from plants, and these ingredients should be present in the soap whether it is a shampoo bar, bathing soap, or any other type of soap that you need.

Secondly, you could opt to buy handmade pure natural soap which may be a bit more expensive than your regular soap but it skips the commercial manufacturing soap making process. This usually uses bentonite clay, which makes the handmade soap retain its natural composition and allow your skin to benefit from its detoxifying qualities.

Keep in mind that your skin is naturally absorbent and will take up most of the materials present in soaps. Using organic soaps will ensure that your skin only absorbs and retains qualities that make it more supple, clean and healthy. The way you store your natural soaps also plays a role in how your skin will benefit from it because you should always keep your soaps in cool dry places to retain their ingredients.

A Review of YesterYear Soap

When I’m looking for new products to write about, I often hope to find a company that makes something with a story behind it. When I found Yesteryear Soap Company, I found one of the best stories I’d ever read. Yesteryear creates pure, organic and really beautiful soaps. The name evokes the time and place from which their company evolved. I’m really thrilled to bring to you the story of Yesteryear Soap.

It begins with a piece of land that they purchased in northern Mississippi. They took years to clear the old logs and they preserved the beautiful pine trees that were left behind. During this, they discovered several old log cabins in the area that were abandoned and falling apart. They took the cabins apart log by log, moved them to the property and reassembled them exactly as they once stood over 150 years ago. The cabins and property are now the home of the YesterYear Lodge in Holly Springs Mississippi.

After spending several years working on this project, they developed a special affinity toward the customs, traditions and products that were used by the settlers of the 19th century.The ingenuity and resourcefulness of these early settlers was compelling. They are now forging ahead with bringing some of these traditions and all natural products to the general public today.
They begin with soap.

The soap making process during the 19th century was a lengthy endeavor that required the soap maker to plan far in advance before any soap could actually be made. Unlike present day soap makers, the early settlers had to first create some of their soap making ingredients. Once they had their ingredients, they could begin the soap making process. The lye solution was placed in a large kettle with the cleaned fat and boiled for hours until it became thick and frothy.

The success of early soap making was dependent on obtaining the correct balance between the lye and the fats. The process did not involve precise measuring and it sometimes required several attempts before a suitable batch was made. Over the years, the process was refined and eventually was made by local ‘soap makers’ selling their products in stores. They were all handmade and used natural fragrant products.

The YesterYear Soap Company can now offer you the same type of soap made over 100 years ago.

What Makes YesterYear Soap “Natural” Soap?
Natural soap means a soap whose ingredients are plant based, and we further define our product as an herbal soap. We oppose the body care industry’s use of the word “natural” to include synthetic fragrances, colorants, and preservatives. We add no artificial substances to our soaps, such as synthetic fragrances, dyes, and preservatives, and where possible, we use organically grown products. Our purely herbal soap is scented with essential oils only and colored with organic herbs and plant extracts only. The soap base recipe is made from 100% certified organic oils. Our products contain no parabens. Read through our ingredient list to see what we mean by “natural soap.” Then, to really see what we mean, take a copy of our ingredients with you next time you go to the store and compare them to the ingredients of soaps on the shelves. Your skin will know the difference.

What Makes Their Soap Better?
A good bar soap balances bar hardness (durability), lather quality (both fluffiness and stability), and moisturizing ability. These different properties come from the different fatty acids that make up molecules of the organic vegetable oils we use as the base of our herbal soap.

Chunky Soap

This is over 1 lb of cuts from a variety of our most popular scents. Ideal for the guest bath or kitchen, these large “chunks” of soap come in an attractive wire basket. These are not ‘seconds’ but actual cuts from our scented bars.

I received their “Chunky Soap Basket” to review for this post. First of all, it was beautifully wrapped with tissue and ribbon and was like opening the loveliest present. The scents that emanated from the package were just heavenly. I could smell Citrus and Lilac and Vanilla. The soaps themselves were oddly cut in beautiful shapes with ridges and whorls and the colors were like a rainbow. The basket was pretty too! It was a lovely gold wire mesh and it perfect for holding all these soaps. I have been using them every day. Not only do they make your skin feel very soft and supple, but the scents are really true and fresh. No fake Irish Spring here. Some of them smelled so good I wanted to take a bite!

One of Community Causes- Women’s Shelters

Domestic Violence is the leading cause of injury to women, more common than automobile accidents, muggings and rapes combined according to former US Surgeon General C. Everett Koop.

Battered women’s shelters exist to provide a safe haven for women—and their children—who are the victims of abusive partners or family members.

Many of the women and children who stay at women’s shelters around the country arrive with nothing other than the clothes on their backs. To escape an abusive situation, there may not be any time to take any possessions with them when they leave home, safety comes first. Rarely is the victim of domestic violence able to put together an overnight bag. Finding herself on the run, a battered woman may grab basics for her children, but will leave her own things behind, including personal care items.

These shelters often have limited resources so, while they do the best they can to help the women and children who stay in the shelter, that help is often the bare minimum.

Being able to have your own bar of soap may seem like a small thing, but it can provide big comfort to a battered woman who just left everything behind and is trying to adjust to new surroundings.

The YesterYear Soap Company is committed to assisting these facilities by making donations of their soap for these women and children in this very difficult time in their lives.

As a normal part of our process there are “extra” bars of soap from production runs. These bars are not seconds but are of the same premium quality that is offered to customers nationwide. Rather that discard these bars of soap, the YesterYear Soap Company makes regular donations to women‘s shelters. We would hope that the women and children in these facilities would enjoy a welcome treat at this very difficult time in their lives.
Their campaign is designed to bring awareness and to encourage other businesses to consider these shelters with contributions of overstocked or no longer needed personal care items.
